Environment Waikato
(EW) has statutory functions relating to managing the use of water,
geothermal and air resources and for soil conservation, and for achieving
integrated management under the Resource Management Act. EW is responsible
for the control of plant and animal pests under the Biosecurity Act.
Taupo District Council
The
Taupo District Council
(TDC) has functions under the Local Government Act with responsibilities to
provide for the diversity and well being of communities. It provides
services to communities and has land use planning and natural hazards
management responsibilities under the Resource Management Act. TDC manage
local authority and lakeshore reserves.
Department of
Conservation
The
Department of Conservation (DOC) is responsible for management of the
Taupo Sports Fishery, management of scenic reserves around Lake Taupo and
for conservation advocacy.
Department of Internal Affairs
The
Lake Taupo Harbourmaster provides services from the Harbourmaster's
office at the Taupo Harbour. The Harbourmaster is responsible for:

provision of issuing berthing permits

managing the 'Taupo Landing Reserve'
comprising Harbourmaster's Office, with public toilets and commercial
office sites, café and berthing area and adjacent 38 berths and ramp at
Nukuhau

licensing commercial boat operators
-
administering examinations for the Lake
Taupo Small Craft Operator's Certificate

maintaining navigation aids and ski lanes
-
clearing launching ramps of sand deposits
and maintaining signage and jetties

patrolling the lake to enforce the Water
Recreation Regulations 1979, the Lake Taupo Regulations 1976, and other
Maritime Rules and Regulations.
