Ngati Tuwharetoa Appointees
The Tuwharetoa Maori Trust Board appoints iwi representatives on behalf
of the Ngati Tuwharetoa every 4 years. The current Ngati Tuwharetoa
appointees to the board are:
John is the Planning Manager for New Zealand Forest Managers based in
Turangi. He completed his secondary education at Taumarunui High, before
earning Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Forestry Science degrees from
Canterbury University. This is John's second term on the board.
Gerard te Heuheu
Gerard is a commercial pilot based
at Taupo. He went to primarily school in Tauarunui and received his
secondary education St Patricks College Silverstream. Gerard has a
strong interest in the management of Taupo-nui-a-Tia. He come onto
the Board in Septemer 2004 to replace former chairman Mawae Morton.
Ian has a life long interest in native and introduced fish. After
graduating with a Masters in Science (hons) in 1990 he worked as a
fisheries biologist and in fishery management. He has worked as an
independent fisheries consultant since 1996. Ian is the chairperson of
the Lake Taupo Sustainable Management Project and fisheries advisor to the
Lake Rotokakahi Trust Board. This is his second term on the
Taupo-nui-a-Tia Management Board.
Danny’s hapu affiliations are Ruingarangi, Rauhoto and Te Maunga. He has
gained a lot of useful knowledge through his work with hapu issues
including RMA, Treaty claims and health services. Danny works as an
accountant for a Taupo company. This is his first term on the
Taupo-nui-a-Tia Management Board and he replaces Hemi Biddle.
Paul has worked in conservation management since 1974. He has been the
Department of Conservation’s Conservator for Tongariro/Taupo Conservancy
since 1989. Previous work roles include Chief Ranger of Tongariro National
Park, Fiordland National Park and Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park. Paul is the
Minister of Conservation’s ex-officio appointee to the Taupo-nui-a-Tia
Management Board and has is currently serving his third term.
Simon is Taupo District Council’s Chief Executive Officer. He has a
Bachelor of Commerce (accounting) from Otago University. Simon has strong
management accounting and strategic planning skills, along with experience
in iwi and community relations. This is Simon’s second term on the board.
Helen is an elected member of Environment Waikato. Helen has thirty four
years farming experience, along with fifteen years experience in local
government. Helen has a strong commitment to the protection of Lake Taupo
water quality. This is Helen’s first term on the board.
Shamus emigrated from Brighton, England, with his family in 1980. Shamus
is an elected member of the Taupo District Council. He has worked as a
helicopter pilot for a number of years, has farming experience, and is now
runs a charter boat operation on Lake Taupo. This is Shamus’ first term
on the board.
Jim is the Kaupapa Atawhai Manager at the Department of Conservation. His
role is to maintain the positive working relationship between iwi and DOC
which his late brother, Huri, and the late Hemi Kingi developed. He has
worked previously as a teacher and at the Hillary Commission. Jim (Ngati
Te Rangiita) has a keen interest in whanau, hapu and iwi development,
along with community development. Jim fulfils the role of kaumatua to the
Taupo-nui-a-Tia Management Board.
Jodine
Hood
Jodine was appointed to the position of Board Support Officer in July 2004
to replace Rowena Cudby. Jodine has been with the Department of
Conservation for several years.
